Car Transfers

Everyone has their own unique style for transferring in and out of cars.  And, honestly, it’s different with different cars. Variables such as the height of the vehicle or car seat, door opening width, if the seat is curved to hug your body or not, and how wide the gap between the wheelchair and the car seat is all affect how I transfer into different cars.

So today, I am showing you how I have the inside of my car set up, where all the parts go, and how I transfer in and how of my car.  Maybe in a future video, I will show you how I transfer into a different car.

When I first bought my car, I was not as strong as I am today.  And, I was thirty pounds heavier. Yep, you read that right, THIRTY pounds.  It still amazes me how much more I can do because the weight is off. I still have some ways to go, but I’m excited to see how much more I will be able to do.

I typically transfer in or out within a minute, however, I haven’t actually timed myself.  If it’s a nice day I might take a bit longer and enjoy the weather, but in the cold, rain, or snow I am moving as quickly as I can to get out of the elements.  Does anyone relate?
