December 2018 Goals

Yikes!  I just realized that I have not posted anything since October!  Life sure does have a funny way of getting away from you. So, let me first update you with what went on in November (it was eventual, and if you follow me on social media – mainly Facebook and Snapchat for this story) you already know what happened).  Then, I will get into my goal setting process for December. It was just a bit different since it’s the end of the year.

November

I can’t exactly remember what was going on at the end of October, beginning of November that I lost track of writing about my goal setting process and updating you with my whereabouts.  I did do my normal goal setting/planning for November. I created an ebook Guide to teach you this process, if you are interested. In my Ultimate Goal Setting Guide, I walk you through, step by step, each part of my process and even give you templates in the back to help you get started, should you need them.  If you click the links provided, you can learn more about my Ultimate Goal Setting Guide.

Looking back in my bullet journal, there really should be no reason that I did not get a November Goals blog post done.  So, I just simply forgot to do it. And for that, I apologize. I was making notes in my bullet journal to keep me motivated on working on my blog, and my vision for my future.  But, then November 14th happened. You see, this day started out a normal day. Actually, I was determined to make it better than normal.

The Story

So, on Tuesday, 11/13, I was having an exceptionally bad day.  Nothing major happened, but I just broke down, and there I stayed for the rest of the day.  It happens to everyone. As you know, I am a pretty positive person and I look for the silverlining in each situation, but sometimes, you just break down and cry.  That’s normal and that’s okay. You need to feel your emotions and what you are going through, in order to GET THROUGH it. So, I allowed myself to cry it out for the rest of the day, and I remember waking up Wednesday morning telling myself that I was going to make that day an exceptionally good day, because I deserved it.

I got to work right at 8:00am, which, if you know me, knows that’s a miracle.  I’m usually arriving right around 8:30am. But, that day, I had physical therapy at 8:30 and I wanted to get to work before then and put all my things in the office.  There is a first time for everything. I will save the details of the rest of the story for another blog post, because it’s a great story, but the summary is in physical therapy that day, I broke my tibia.  If you don’t know where your tibia is, it’s the bigger bone in your shin.

So my world got turned upside down that day.

I had to take a week and a half off of work due to this injury (and you’ll find out why in my next post), so I decided to just “chill” for the rest of November and focus on my recovery.  What’s the point in working towards goals if you don’t have your health? Your health should be your number 1 priority, NO MATTER WHAT! So, I did just that. I prioritized my health and decided to start reading a new book while I kept my leg elevated.

Now, let’s fast forward to present time.

It’s December 6th, and I’m just now getting this post out.  But, I’ve been planning this for a week. So, life is still busy, but I’m working through it one task at a time.  Hey! That’s all you can do. So, like I mentioned, I went through my normal goal setting/planning process (like what’s in my Ultimate Goal Setting Guide) but focused on what I still haven’t achieved this year that I wanted to.  So, I took a little extra time to look back on my goals and what still aligned with my overall goal.

And I took action

There were 3 goals that I have been pushing back for no real reason why.  So, yesterday, I prioritized my time, and money, and I payed off all of my credit cards!  ALL OF THEM! That was an amazing feeling. Six days into December, and I already have accomplished 3 of my 10 goals, and those 3 goals put a major dent into my Ultimate Goal.  If you know my process, then you know that my Ultimate Goal acts like a domino effect for my 10 goals. It’s what I’m working towards to get everything done. (And this, by the way, is what makes my goal setting process unique compared to others).

Other goals are more on going for the month.  Examples include moving/working out everyday, getting my water goal every day, and taking a blogging course by working on it a little bit each day.  Those things are in progress, but I will continue to work on them each day of this month.

This month, I am trying to break down each task into smaller pieces.  For example, instead of writing “December Goals Blog Post,”I’m breaking it down into writing it, formatting and publishing it on my website, setting up the email blast, and scheduling my social media posts.

That one goal, becomes 4 smaller tasks that each take about 10 minutes (besides actually writing it – that tasks longer). Then, each day, I pick 3 – 10 minute tasks and make those my priority. If I get those done (and in the process work toward accomplishing a goal) I can consider that day a win.  Any other task that I get done that day is counted as a bonus.

New this month

So, each month, I do my brain dump.  If you are unfamiliar, it’s where I list all the tasks I want to complete for the month, and then I can pick and choose from that list each week, and by the end of the month I have crossed off most things from my brain dump – remember, the goal isn’t to be perfect, it’s to continually work towards accomplishing them and being better than the day before.

This is actually helping me get more things done.  It might sound counterintuitive – making more tasks for me to complete might sound overwhelming.  But really, I am more focused than ever. Perhaps taking most of November “off” refocused my mindset and motivation for what I want to accomplish with this blog.  I am getting healthier, out of debt, and in the end – happier.

I hope you decide to give my Ultimate Goal Setting Guide a try.  I promise that this process works, if you stick to it. I can’t wait to see where I am by this time next year – or even 6 months from now!  Six months from now, I will officially be in my “Mid-thirties” and I will have a lot to show for it, because of my Ultimate Goal Setting Guide.
